Unveiling Creativity: Tokyo Indie Games Summit 2024

The thriving heartbeat of the indie gaming scene was felt profoundly at the Tokyo Indie Games Summit 2024. This year’s event, which took place in the cultural hub of Kichijoji, Tokyo, witnessed a staggering 45% increase in attendance, drawing in over 4500 passionate visitors over the course of two electrifying days.

With 126 indie games on display, attendees were treated to a dazzling array of both fresh reveals and updates to cherished favorites. Highlights included:

  • Touhou Genso Wanderer -FORESIGHT-, a Touhou Project fan game, set to rebuild sacred shrines on PC via Steam come May 15th, 2024.
  • SKY THE SCRAPER, a window-cleaning roguelike action game, expected to make its PC debut in 2024.
  • Mika and the Witch’s Mountain, a whimsical package-delivery adventure, slated for Steam release in 2024.

Conversations with Gaming Legends

The weekend was abuzz with panel discussions featuring iconic figures from the gaming industry. Notables like Jun’ya “ZUN” Ōta, the creator of the Touhou Project, and Noda Crystal, a prominent game developer and comedian, shared invaluable insights into the indie game development journey. Moreover, a glimpse into the future of indie game music was provided by Sony Interactive Entertainment, SACRA MUSIC, and indie publisher Phoenixx, while Digital Hearts presented advancements in AI localization technology.
